Hoe adopteer ik een hond?
Via ons kun je een Saluki adopteren om ze een beter leven te geven. Wij gaan uiterst zorgvuldig te werk in de selectieprocedure: Er moet uiteraard voorkomen worden dat een hond
Gelukkig hebben Saluki’s een lief, rustig en zacht karakter en hebben zij door hun toch wel flegmatieke aard redelijk snel het vertrouwen in de mens terug. Zij hechten zich snel aan hun nieuwe eigenaar. Blaffen zelden en trekken niet aan de riem. Je moet echter zeer zorgvuldig overwegen of je de hond los laat lopen. Volgens de Nederlandse Wet Natuurbescherming, artikel 3.21 lid 1b is “het verboden bij de uitoefening van de jacht gebruik te maken van andere middelen dan honden, niet zijnde lange honden”, en artikel 3.24 lid 5 “Het is een ieder verboden zich in een veld te bevinden met een dier dat hem toebehoort of onder zijn toezicht staat en dat in het veld dieren opspoort, doodt, verwondt, vangt of bemachtigt.” Een windhond is hier heel goed toe in staat, daarom raden wij af om, i.v.m. niet ondenkbeeldige ongelukken en de gevolgen daarvan, je windhond los te laten, behalve op daarvoor geschikte, dus veilige plaatsen. Verder moet je bij honden met een groot jachtinstinct oppassen met katten, kleine hondjes en konijnen, hoewel dat niet betekent dat ze per definitie niet samen gehouden kunnen worden.

Er wordt dan contact met je opgenomen door 1 van onze adoptieconsulenten en kun je alles te weten komen over de stichting, de honden en de adoptieprocedure. Nadat je alle gewenste informatie hebt ingewonnen, krijg je de tijd om erover na te denken. Het is immers een behoorlijke stap om een hond met een verleden in huis te halen. Mocht je hierna besluiten om over te gaan tot adoptie, dan wordt de adoptieprocedure gestart (intake en daarna huisbezoek). Hoe deze procedure verloopt, zal de consulent je uitleggen. Kies je voor een opvanghond, dan kun je na afspraak kennis gaan maken bij een van onze opvanggezinnen. Hier krijgen mens en hond alle tijd om met elkaar kennis te maken en aan elkaar te wennen. Kies je voor een hond die nog Qatar verblijft, is het niet mogelijk om vooraf kennis te maken. Dan zie je de hond pas voor het eerst na aankomst van het transport. Alle honden worden voorafgaand aan het transport medisch onderzocht, ontwormd, gechipt, ingeënt en gecastreerd/gesteriliseerd en getest op Mediterrane ziektes.
Waarom betaal je adoptiegeld voor een rescue hond?
Het adoptiegeld bedraagt € 700,- a 950 en is een vergoeding voor dekking van zowel het bedrag dat wij per hond aan de shelter betalen als voor de kosten die wij zelf maken inbegrepen is een veiligheidstuig, polslus met duo hondenlijn en martignale halsband, die wij verplicht stellen. Kleding dient aanvullend gekocht te worden en wij bieden een basis pakket van body met jas voor €65,-. De adoptiekosten varieren als gevolg van het gewicht van de Saluki en de daarbij horende kosten van het vliegticket.
Het bedrag dat wij aan de shelter betalen:
Een bijdrage in de kosten voor: Ontworming en antivlooienbehandeling, bloedonderzoek , vaccinaties, microchip (indien niet aanwezig), castratie/sterilisatie, paspoort. Mogelijke verdere dierenartsbehandeling, waaronder dure operaties, medicijnen, verbandmiddelen. Voer, manden, riemen, halsbanden, jasjes in de koude maanden. Vaak worden deze laatste artikelen gedoneerd door lieve mensen, maar soms is de voorraad op en moet het worden aangeschaft door de shelter.
Onze eigen kosten:
Bijdrage per hond in de transportkosten. Kosten voer en dierenarts voor de opvanghonden in Nederland en belgie. Chipregistratie in Nederland, bij https://backhomeclub.nl/
SalukiHope besteedt veel vrije tijd aan telefoneren, mailen, overleggen met kandidaat-adoptanten, afleggen van huisbezoeken, honden vervoeren naar de dierenarts, of een opvanghond verplaatsen. Telefoon- en benzinekosten betalen wij daarbij uit eigen zak.
Als je alle werkelijke kosten bij elkaar optelt, is het adoptiebedrag maar een fractie daarvan. Je betaalt dus eigenlijk alleen een bijdrage in alle kosten die er al gemaakt zijn voor jouw hond.
LET OP: Wijziging transportregels per november 2021
In april 2021 is er een nieuwe Europese diergezondheidsverordening (2016/429) aangenomen. Dit houdt in dat er vanaf 1 november 2021 een aantal nieuwe regels geldt voor stichtingen die honden (en katten) vanuit het buitenland naar Nederland importeren.
Een van die regels is, dat jij als adoptant bij de Rijksdienst Voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO) een Uniek Bedrijfs Nummer (UBN) moet aanvragen. Dit nummer moet in jouw bezit zijn voordat je een buitenlandse hond kunt adopteren. Dit nummer is alleen bedoeld voor het adopteren van een buitenlandse hond en is verder niet van belang voor de Belastingdienst of andere overheidsorganisaties.
Het nummer is aan te vragen via deze link: https://mijn.rvo.nl/bedrijfsmatig-huisdieren-houden en dan bij de tab ‘Huisdierlocatie’. Zodra je het UBN-nummer in je bezit hebt, moet je dit doorgegeven aan de SalukiHope. Het wordt dan opgenomen in de officiële transportdocumenten.
Het kan zijn dat er na adoptie controle komt door de officiële instanties, om te zien of de hond ook daadwerkelijk op het opgegeven adres is aangekomen en daar minimaal 48 uur verblijft.
SalukiHope zorgt ervoor dat de hond bij BackHomeClub.nl (een chipregistratie-databank) wordt geregistreerd als ‘Import’. Je bent als adoptant verplicht om binnen 2 weken de chip van je hond op je eigen naam te registreren. Wij adviseren om dit ook bij BackHomeClub.nl te doen, zodat SalukiHope zichtbaar blijft. Voor adoptanten in België geldt dat zij de hond zelf aan moeten melden bij ABIEC. Bijbehorende kosten komen voor eigen rekening.
How do I adopt a dog?
Through us, you can adopt a Saluki to give them a better life. We take great care in the selection procedure: we obviously want to prevent a dog, which has already been through some things in its life, from having to go through traumatic experiences again. We also want to prevent anyone from not knowing what they are getting into when adopting a dog. This is important for both humans and animals, hence our adoption policy.
Fortunately, Salukis have a sweet, calm and gentle nature and, due to their rather phlegmatic nature, they regain trust in humans fairly quickly. They quickly bond to their new owner. They rarely bark and do not pull on the leash. However, you should consider very carefully whether to let the dog run loose. According to the Dutch Nature Protection Act, Article 3.21 paragraph 1b, “It is forbidden to use any means other than dogs, other than long dogs, in the exercise of hunting”, and Article 3.24 paragraph 5 “It is forbidden for anyone to be in a field with an animal that belongs to him or is under his supervision and that tracks, kills, wounds, catches or captures animals in the field.” A greyhound is quite capable of this, which is why, due to not unthinkable accidents and their consequences, we advise against letting your greyhound loose, except in appropriate, i.e. safe places. Furthermore, dogs with a strong hunting instinct should be careful with cats, small dogs and rabbits, although this does not necessarily mean that they cannot be kept together.

You will then be contacted by one of our adoption counsellors and can learn all about the foundation, the dogs and the adoption procedure. After you have gathered all the desired information, you will be given time to think about it. After all, it is quite a step to adopt a dog with a past. If you then decide to adopt, the adoption procedure will start (intake and home visit). The counsellor will explain how this procedure works. If you decide to adopt a shelter dog, you can meet one of our foster families after making an appointment. People and dogs will have plenty of time to get to know each other and get used to each other. If you choose a dog who is still in Qatar, it is not possible to get acquainted beforehand. In that case, you will only see the dog for the first time after the transport arrives. All dogs are medically examined, wormed, microchipped, vaccinated, castrated/sterilised and tested for Mediterranean diseases prior to transport.
Why do you pay adoption fee for a rescue dog?
The adoption fee is €700,- a 950,- and covers both the amount we pay per dog to the shelter and our own expenses, include is a safety harness, wrist loop with duo dog leash and martignal collar and body, which we require..We do charges an extra 200 euro for adoptions outside europe which is because of extra cost in paperwork and transport. for paymants with paypal an extra cost is charged.Clothing should be purchased additionally and we offer a basic package of body with jacket for €65. Adoption costs vary due to the weight of the Saluki and the associated cost of the airfare.
The amount we pay to the shelter:
A contribution towards the cost of: Deworming and anti-flea treatment, blood tests Mediterranean diseases, vaccinations, microchip (if not present), neutering/spaying, passport. Possible further veterinary treatment, including expensive operations, medicines, dressings. Food, baskets, leashes, collars, jackets in the cold months. Often these last items are donated by kind people, but sometimes we run out of stock and it has to be purchased by the shelter.

SalukiHope spends a lot of free time on telephoning, mailing, consulting with prospective adopters, making home visits, transporting dogs to the vet, or moving a shelter dog. Telephone and petrol costs are paid out of pocket.
If you add up all the actual costs, the adoption fee is only a fraction of that. In other words, you only pay a contribution towards all the costs already incurred for your dog.
PLEASE NOTE: Change transport rules as of November 2021
A new European Animal Health Regulation (2016/429) was adopted in April 2021. This means that from 1 November 2021 a number of new rules will apply to foundations that import dogs (and cats) from abroad to the Netherlands.

The number can be requested via this link: https://mijn.rvo.nl/bedrijfsmatig-huisdieren-houden and then at the ‘Pet Location’ tab. Once you have the UBN number in your possession, you should pass it on to the SalukiHope. It will then be included in the official transport documents.
There may be checks by the official authorities after adoption, to see if the dog has actually arrived at the specified address and is staying there for at least 48 hours.
SalukiHope will ensure that the dog is registered at BackHomeClub.nl (a chip registration database) as an ‘Import’. As an adopter, you are obliged to register your dog’s chip in your own name within 2 weeks. We recommend that you also do this at BackHomeClub.nl, so that SalukiHope remains visible. For adopters in Belgium, they have to register the dog with ABIEC themselves. Associated costs are for their own account.
